young man as a nurse practitioner

“No Longer Do I Hate Being a Nurse Practitioner.”

I became a nurse practitioner because I wanted to help people improve their health and wellness, but soon after I started my career, I found myself frustrated by challenges like a poor work-life balance and a lack of respect from my patients and colleagues. Knowing I was not alone in my job dissatisfaction didn’t help me feel any better, because the consistently low morale among my colleagues created a toxic work environment. Fortunately, I discovered an opportunity to turn my career around. Here’s how I did it.

How Burnout and Depression Impact Nurses

Burnout and depression are two of the most common reasons NPs consider leaving the profession in search of greener pastures. These issues can severely affect nurses’ quality of life, and I can attest to that. Once I became burned out, it became challenging to stay enthusiastic about a career that I once hoped would define the rest of my life.

My mental health also affected my family life – my mood made me a difficult person to be around some days. Even during my downtime, I couldn’t completely relax, because I was always thinking about work.

Of course, I took steps to reduce my stress. I tried yoga and meditation, and I even started going for daily walks when the weather was warm. I also requested a lighter work schedule and other accommodations to reduce my burnout, but that didn’t solve challenges like my heavy burden of administrative work and patients who kept returning with the same concerns.

How Working With Warrior Vets Improved My Life

When my job satisfaction reached an all-time low, I seriously considered starting a new career. However, I still felt a calling to be part of the health care industry and work with patients. That’s why I was so excited to accept an alternative nurse practitioner job with Warrior Vets. Now, I have a much more flexible schedule, while earning higher pay and having an improved work-life balance.

Finding Warrior Vets changed my mental well-being, family life and overall attitude toward my job – all without having to start fresh on a different career path. My contract nursing job with Warrior Vets also lets me give back to current and former service members, which is incredibly rewarding. I love that I get to set my schedule on my terms. Best of all, Warrior Vets’ back-office support team handles all the administrative tasks on my behalf. Now, I have more time to spend delivering quality care to patients and being present for my family. It’s been a win-win solution for everyone!

If you’re a nurse practitioner who would like to find more freedom, balance and personal satisfaction from your job, working with Warrior Vets can transform your career the same way it did mine. To learn more about part-time and full-time job opportunities, contact them today.
